The location and what to do

The Ikarian Centre is located near the village of Arethousa, at an altitude of 300m, 3 Km away from the sea (45 min on foot).

The view to both the mountains and the sea is breathtaking and the Centre is ideal for those who would like to escape the noise of the city and spend some time near nature, in a location that combines both mountains and the sea, to hike in the mountains or watch birds of prey from their window.

Local transport

The Centre is located in a remote area. For this reason all the Centres’ visitors must rend their own vehicle (scooter or car). In this way you will be able to explore the whole island: the beautiful beaches, the mountains, the night life and the famous Ikarian panigiri!

The area

In Arethousa the visitors will have the experience of the traditional Greek hospitality and discover a different option of modern Greece, unspoiled from the tourist industry. There has been very little tourist development and there are few shops. Necessary items can be obtained from small shops in Arethousa (1Km – 15min on foot), the coastal village Karavostamo (2 km – 45 min on foot) or the port Evdilos (7Km, 20 min by car). The visitors can find tavernas and kafenions open during the summer and winter months. The cost of living is very reasonable in Ikaria. A full meal at one of the local tavernas costs between 9 and 12 Euro, including wine.
